Evolution of Technology

Ancient Greek Philosopher Plato had once said that 'Necessity is the Mother of Invention'; means difficult/different problems and situations require whole new thoughts and ideas to counter it. These new ideas help in the invention or innovation, creation or development of machines, devices and computers, above all factories (where are these can be made or manufactured). These are used for the production of certain goods & services, and also for the accomplishment of certain scientific objectives.

Earlier when it is thought that the resources present in the world are limited. To survive, these resources needs to be snatched from the others. This was the period when the idea of Mercantilism prevail in the world. Because of this thought most of the European Nations expanded themselves all over the world (esp. Great Britain).

But in the eighteenth century AD when industrial revolution began in United Kingdom, then the idea of Mercantilism faded. They started to think that new resources can be made using machines. It marked a major turning point in the history. Due to the Industrial Revolution the daily aspects of life got influenced in some way or the other. Most of the things which were earlier made by humans were now being made by the machines in the factories. Lots of innovations and up-gradation has been made in the field of machines, to make them more and more mechanized, so that human interface, in turn human errors can be reduced.

Time changed rapidly, a new form of machine came into picture, these were called the computers (at its initial days these were only automated computing machines). It has the ultimate power to change the course of the future (which it did). As these computers evolve, less and less human interface being required for running a large factory. Everything is now automated and control by computers. These computers now can handle everything on its own.

In 1989 when an English scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (www), allowed the data stored at point to be access by the others. Now more and more data was accessible by the common people. In our day-to-day term we call it Internet. Now, its impact is so immense in our lives that it has been called as the '8th continent'.

Development in the computers sector is with such a pace that, today's innovations is tomorrow's routine and obsolete the other day. We have to cope-up with this changing world, otherwise we will be left behind and nobody will even bother (applies to all under-developed and developing nations).

In the present Information Technology (IT) age if anybody wants to have upper hand, in any field, with the other then he should possesses infallible Science & Technology (S&T) and a great Research and Development (R&D) unit. Example: USA whose R&D sector is so strong that it possess state-of-the-art technology in all fields (esp. military) due to which its remained the superpower for more than 60 years, whereas Russia lost its.

But why we all have to innovate technology? The simple answer to this question is to 'Serve Customers Profitably'. To do so these products and processes needs to be in the continuous process of evolution and up-gradation.

Invention and development of any process, idea, or technology makes us rich (not in terms of money but in terms of resources, facilities & utilities). Since everything has its bright and dark side, these technologies have them too. But it is we who have to balance out between them and do not let one take-over the other.

Comments

  1. Its fact. It is good. You can extend this later and comment more on future. How miniaturization of technology is taking place. And how people are so dependent on it. And where it'll lead us to.
Then it'll become more interesting and debatable.

    1. Thank you for your reply... maybe i will take the topic of Miniaturization of technology later and give my input to it.
