I am a warrior; defending my nation is my Dharma. I will train my mind, body and spirit to fight, excel in all devices and weapons - present and future. Always protect the weak, be truthful and forthright, be humane, cultured and compassionate, fight and embrace the consequences willingly. God give me strength that I ask nothing of you. ~ Bhagwat Gita Background Constitution of National Power Power has always been an integral constituent of inter-state relations. Kautilya defined it as the possession of 'Might and Strength'. In the present-day global environment, our National Power gives us the ability and capability to secure our National Interests (capacities in the military, economic, science & technology, leadership, National character, education, and influence (Diplomacy)) and also National Borders. Power is broadly classified as Hard Power and Soft Power. Hard Power facilitates the use of military, economic and political means to influence other States; Soft Power us...

The World After Coronavirus

Image
Pre and Post Coronavirus way of life Coronavirus or COVID-19 is now synonymous to lockdowns, curfews, massive airport screenings, quarantine and social distancing across the globe. It has affected every aspect of - political, economic, social, technological and cultural - life. The world as we know before the coronavirus and after the coronavirus is not going to be the same. There will be many fundamental changes in an individual's life, structural changes in the functioning of the society, and functional changes on the professional front. Already face masks, social distancing, priority to health etc. have become the new norm across the globe. Background On December 31, 2019, China reported the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of cluster of cases and pneumonia of an unknown cause in Wuhan City in Hubei province. On January 09, 2020, WHO issued a statement saying Chinese researchers have made "preliminary determination" of the virus as a nov...

On May 22, Nepal has released a new political map that claimed Kalapani, Limpiyadhura, and Lipulekh of Uttarakhand as part of Nepal's territory. The area of Susta (West Champaran district, Bihar) can also be noted on the map. Kalapani territory is an area under Indian administration as part of the Pithoragarh district in Uttarkhand state but is also claimed by Nepal. It also shares a border on the north with Tibet Autonomous Region ...

Youth India - Untapped Power

Youth UNESCO Definition: Best understand as a period of transition from the dependence on childhood to adulthood's independence and awareness of our independence as a member of a community. Youth is a more fluid category rather than a fixed age group. Youth being enthusiastic, vibrant, innovative and dynamic in nature is the most important section of the population. They are the most valuable segment of the population and are not a ready laboratory to test the finished products of the state apparatus. Rather, they are the variables that should be utilized for creating new opportunities based on the skills of contemporary relevance. The youth of the nation are the trustees of prosperity. Youth force is dynamic in nature as most skills and orientations are acquired in this age. The youth can act ideally as a bridge between two generations. It is an age cohort that, if explained properly, can understand the need of flexibility in order to smoothen its own growth and development...

General Election - 2019

Image
Source:  https://www.eci.gov.in/ General Election, the biggest Democratic 'Festival' (comes every five year) was ended on 19.05.2019. This festival was observed in 543 constituencies across 29 states and 7 Union Territories (UTs), spread over a month, in seven phases. About 900 million citizens were eligible to vote in one of the seven phases depending on the region. More than 350 political parties of various sizes and ideologies contested to win the trust of the people and vie to win seats in Lok Sabha. The finale (counting of votes) will be concluded on 23 May, 2019. Some of the important national issues (according to me) on which General Election - 2019 was fought on are as follows: National Security India in the recent times have been struggling with the problem of terrorism. Action against terrorism and extremism was the main focus by the majority of the political parties. The issue of lousy procurement policies in defense and declining defense budget was als...

Pulwama Terror Attack

Image
Pulwama Terror attack. Photo: PTI A convoy of  Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was targeted by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants (claimed the responsibility of the attack) with a car bomb in Awanripora in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, February 14, 2019. This is a worst-ever terror attack on the security forces in the state in the last few years. At least 38 security personnel were martyred and three were missing. This dastardly attack was strongly condemned by the Indian government and has given a stern message to isolate Pakistan globally. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on Friday 15, 2019 pledged that perpetrators of the cowardly attack will "pay a heavy price for it". Now, all the government machinery is focusing on Pulwana attack and have no intention to forgive Pakistan. The Central Reserve Police Force in its statement said, "We will not forget, We will not forgive-We salute our martyrs of attack and stand with the families ...

India and Rohingya Muslims

Image
The long burning issue of Rohingya Muslim has suddenly became the center point of political discussions in India, many petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court (by the Rohingyas themselves). Indian government is insisting on deportation of Rohingya linking this decision with the National Security. But the core issue with the deportation is that Myanmar does not consider Rohigyas as their citizens, but consider them as immigrants. (For more on Rohingya read my earlier blog  here ). Repercussion of violence in Rakhine state of Myanmar (Western part) are felt around the world,  particularly in the neighboring countries like Bangladesh, India and other South East Asian nations. Due to the ongoing tension in Myanmar many Rohingya people fled Myanmar and over 40,000 made their way to India, many of whom are registered with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), and stay in refugee camps. The U nion Minster of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju called them i...

Rohingya Tragedy

Image
About Rohingya: The controversy surrounding Myanmar's Rohingya people (Muslim) is evident in conflicting stories about the ethnic group's origin. Rohingya people are a stateless Indo-Aryan people from Rankine State Myanmar. The majority are Muslim, while a minority are Hindu. Rohingya Muslims numbers more than a million today in Myanmar.  The Burmese government and Burmese Historians argue that the Rohingya are actually Bengali Muslims, refusing to recognize the term "Rohingya".  They do not consider the Rohigyas as their citizens and consider them to be immigrants who brought in from Bangladesh during the British Colonial Era of 1824-1948. Majority of Rakhine Buddhists believe that "Rohingya" is a fabricated religious identity. They go on to cite historical document to claim that the Burmese past never had a community called Rohingya and that those who refer to themselves by the name are basically immigrants from modern day Bangladesh who were brough...

India's action - Post Uri-attack

Eighteen soldiers were killed by four heavily armed terrorist/militant on September 18, 2016 in Uri area of Baramulla district (Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir). It is not the first time that some militant or terrorist group had attacked India. In early this year there was an attack on Pathankot Air Force Station, part of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force. From time to time India had faced many such terrorist attacks along with a constant insurgence by the militants/terrorist in state of Jammu and Kashmir (most Terrorist come from State of Pakistan). India had always tolerated it and tried to go by the procedure. But this time it was different as India had it all, now the Indian government is trying to reciprocate the actions done by the Pakistan, in a diplomatic manner. In this view the Modi government has embarked on a series of retaliatory steps including - sustained diplomatic offensive, reviewing 56-year-old water treaty, boycotting regional inter...
