Insensitive India

A great tragedy brings the worst of enemies together, and the current rape cases (Kathua Rape-Murder case and Unnao Rape case) have proven this once again. Today, one might be happy, to see that the varied section of society coming together and protesting to get justice for the rape victims. But I feel ashamed to see that protests were also happening, in parallel, to support the rapist not by the public but by the ministers whom public chooses as their representatives (what were they trying to prove!?).
While a murderer destroys the physical frame of the victim, a rapist degrades and defiles the soul of a helpless female. Now and then the newspaper reports a rape case, and according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in majority of the case the accused is known to the victim (click here for statewise breakdown). It appears that the rapists are not scared of laws. Prominent leaders and experts have blamed women’s clothing as one of the major factor for increasing rape cases, which is totally wrong. No clothing is an invitation to rape.
I can proudly say that, we are living in a country where girls are treated at par with the goddesses; they are worshipped, respected and honored. But whenever I hear rape news my heart sinks, and wonder is this the kind of environment in which we want to raise our children, or we are going to do something about it? Today culture, ethics and values of the country have been lost in the advent and glamour of new technology. People are busy vying to fit in the ever changing society, and don’t have time to look into the worries of the others. It takes a tragedy for them to come out of their comfort zone and come closer for the cause of society. These current incidents are not the first to unite society, especially the youth, it had already happened in the past (Nirbhaya gang rape case, 2012 and many others).

It is very painful to see people disintegrate on the cause of betterment of society in a country which is rich in history, literature, arts, ethics and values. The need of the hour is to awake and sensitize the people to ask questions to the authorities, institutions to strengthen the law for heinous and violent crime and timely & rightful justice to the victims and a strong punishment to the offender.
Many of us won’t understand the pain and condition of the parent who had lost their daughter in the hands of some mentally disturbed elements of the society, but we can ask the government for the justice and assurance about crime free environment so that this doesn’t happen to any one of us in the future.

Women are wonderful daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers. They should be loved, cared, respected and should be protected.

जय  हिन्द !!! जय भारत !!!
